Custom retail kiosks engineered for a 24-hour Navy Pier location - fully merchandised by day, completely secured by night, with 270-degree opening doors and integrated storage.
01 - The Challenge
Open All Hours, Secure All Night
A souvenir shop inside Navy Pier was moving to a new location - one with heavy foot traffic but open 24 hours a day. The fundamental challenge: design a retail setup that could be fully merchandised and inviting during business hours, then quickly and easily locked down at the end of the day to protect inventory overnight.
The solution had to be practical for staff (fast to open and close), visually appealing to shoppers, and engineered to withstand the wear of a high-traffic public venue.
02 - Design & Engineering
Dual-Mode Architecture
The result is a system of 6 kiosks - 3 left-hand and 3 right-hand units - each with lit interior cabinets and 270-degree-opening doors. The doors accept peghooks and hangbars on their inside faces, effectively doubling the merchandising surface when open.
The doors lock open during business hours and lock closed at night. Each kiosk also features a locking storage closet for backstock and supplies.

Built for Real-World Use
Every element was designed around the daily workflow of the staff - from the door hinge geometry that enables a full 270-degree swing to the integrated lighting that makes merchandise pop without external fixtures.
